
Briege Whitehead is an award-winning producer, director, and writer based in Perth, Western Australia, who is passionate about finding and telling important stories from around the world. From a young age, she learned the importance of engaging audiences when she hosted her own weekly radio show as a child. Briege established her own company, White Spark Pictures, in 2017, focusing on producing both factual programming for the international television market as well as Virtual Reality (VR), immersive, and interactive productions. A pioneering VR producer, she is responsible for the groundbreaking VR hit ‘THE ANTARCTICA EXPERIENCE’, one of the most commercially successful and in-demand VR films of all time, ranking in the top five of highest-grossing theatrically released Australian documentaries, and the multi-award-winning VR documentary ‘BEYOND THE MILKY WAY’. Her latest film ‘THE GREAT KIMBERLEY WILDERNESS’ launched in December 2024 through VR Cinemas around the country.
TV productions from Briege and White Spark Pictures have appeared on leading broadcast platforms around the world, such as National Geographic, the History Channel, Discovery, and Netflix. These include natural history series ‘IMPOSSIBLE PLANET’ (12 x 1 hr, Animal Planet & Discovery+) and true crime series ‘POISONOUS LIAISONS’ (13 x 1 hr, A&E & History Channel). She has also written and produced titles such as ‘72 DANGEROUS PLACES TO LIVE’ and ‘72 CUTEST ANIMALS’ for National Geographic and Netflix globally.
Briege has been recognised for her business acumen and innovative contributions to the industry. In 2021, she was awarded enterprise funding from Screen Australia to develop an innovative new virtual reality technology and company called Surround Sync. This technology, developed and patented by Surround Sync, is set to be a game-changer in expanding distribution and commercial opportunities for VR. In 2024, she won the Realscreen Factual Under 40 award and was named a Top 10 Trailblazer in the Global 100, and in 2020, she was awarded the West Australian 40under40.
Briege’s achievements also include the 2020 ECU International Alumni Award, the 2019 Channel 7 Western Australian Young Achiever of the Year Award for Innovation, and being named a former SPA (Screen Producers Australia) “Ones-to-Watch.” Extremely well-connected in the international television and VR worlds, she is frequently asked to act as an advisor on specific projects and to contribute as a spokesperson or panelist at major events.
