Peter Shpilenok (b. 1984) is a Russian ecologist and conservation leader who served as director of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve from 2017 to 2022. A third-generation reserve inspector, he helped dismantle industrial-scale poaching, then pioneered sustainable eco-tourism, modern visitor centers, and a Nature Conservation School to train volunteers and guides. Under his tenure, the reserve expanded its territory and launched award-winning environmental education and film projects such as “Kamchatka, Russia 360.” In 2022 he resigned in protest at the criminal prosecution of colleagues, remaining as deputy director to continue both conservation work and the fight for justice.
