Summary:

Appalachians have a strong spiritual, physical and metaphysical connection to place. The Home Within interrogates this theme through fantastical, interpretive scenes where the fusion of dance, music and spoken word transport viewers to real locations within Appalachia. The film uses volumetric captures (scans) of real places, holographic video of dancers and musicians, and original music by regional artists.

Director Bio:

David Smith is an educator and visual storyteller from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a 20+ year background in nonfiction documentary and interdisciplinary art. He has been integrating XR into his creative and journalistic work since 2016.
