Andrea Cooper

Andrea Cooper is an interdisciplinary artist with a Master’s in Visual Studies from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Concordia. Known for her innovative approach to video, installation, and immersive media, Cooper’s work often explores complex themes of existence, time, and the human experience.

Her VR project, GONE VR, was previewed at prestigious festivals such as SXSW in Austin, Texas, and the Annecy Animation Festival in France in 2024. It is set to premiere at the Fine Arts Film Festival in Venice, California, in 2025. Cooper’s earlier video works, Honey (2010) and Strange Things (2007), have earned international recognition. Strange Things won the National Film Board of Canada’s Emerging Filmmaker/Video Artist Award at the Toronto Images Festival and premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival’s Forum Expanded.

Cooper’s work has been exhibited widely in galleries across Canada and internationally, including group shows like Mimetism at Extra City in Antwerp and Darkness Ascends at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto. Most recently, her video Starring Part 2 was showcased at The Rooms in St. John’s as part of the Future Possible exhibition, and Wild Honey was part of Insect as Idea at the McIntosh Gallery at Western University. Her work has been screened at major international events such as the XXVèmes Rencontres Internationales Traverse in Toulouse, France, in 2022.

Cooper continues to shape the future of digital art, blending traditional fine arts practices with cutting-edge technologies to create immersive storytelling experiences.
