FIVARS 2025 Spotlight on Fading Voices

FIVARS interviewed the director of XR experience “Fading Voices:” Samantha Vargas.

What lead to the creation of this piece?

I wanted to show in an artistic way the consequences of not helping people that are suffering workplace harassment or bullying, sadly a very common issue.

What was the production process like for you and your team? What did you learn?

Very frenetic! For us, the story always came first but it was difficult because the platform where we did it has some limitations. But as we spent time developing the characters, and discussing how to structure the piece, the team understood perfectly what I was trying to achieve.

How did you become an immersive content creator and why?

My main career is as a developer and these days I am working with generative AI, but my hobby and passion is creating digital pieces of art. I like to use many web platforms and tools to create art pieces trying to use all the features I can. I created many spaces for some platforms only for fun, but people liked them…and I was nominated as a finalist in The Poly Awards! That was the moment I felt I had become an immersive media content creator.

What is the VR/AR industry like in your region?

In my opinion, the industry is small in Latam but I hope it changes in the future.

What do you have planned for the future?

I am still creating pieces for fun, If some other projects have won prizes using my spaces, I feel that maybe it’s my way of helping the industry grow. I think AI is the future and can be a great tool to speed up the process of creating new pieces.

What would like to share with fellow content creators and/or the industry?

The main goal of art is to tell the story—regardless of the platform. Tools and technologies may change, but your vision remains yours. Stay focused, and remember: your ideas can take shape anywhere.

Do you think VR festivals like FIVARS are important?

Of course, FIVARS allows people to share their stories and ideas with a wider audience. On a personal level, it means a lot when someone reaches out to say they connected with one of my pieces.

Fading Voices” is available to experience at the in person show at OCAD University on June 25th and 26th. It is also available for attendees to experience throughout the online festival.
