Taking Mannheim’s iconic square grid as its starting point, the film draws connections between global metropolises—New York, Barcelona, Los Angeles—and this uniquely ordered German city. Blending abstract visuals with real-world soundscapes, the film captures the rhythm of urban life through constantly shifting light, color, and form. From bicycles to automobiles, from historic streets to modern intersections, Colored Cubes explores the cultural intersections that animate a city shaped by many nations. Through immersive visual scenes and contrasting acoustic field recordings, it reimagines the urban landscape as a living, breathing organism in perpetual transformation.
