Enhancing Global Access and Distribution to Virtual Storytelling Through WebXR Technology

The Festival of International Virtual & Augmented Reality Stories (FIVARS) is proud to announce its Innovator of the Year nomination at the 2024 Poly Awards. The nominees for the acknolwedgement are FIVARS producer and designer Keram Malicki-Sanchez and developer James Baicoianu. This nomination highlights the festival’s role in enabling worldwide access to immersive virtual narrative works without the need for downloads or proprietary software.

FIVARS, founded in 2015 by Malicki-Sanchez, has been a pioneer in presenting virtual reality experiences that connect to an international audience. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the festival showcases immersive spherical narrative works in various form factors.

This year’s innovation includes the iterations of the FIVARS online platform’s enhanced video playback capabilities, supporting 5.7K spherical stereoscopic video, full dome, and multiple Barco escapea dn projection-mapped formats with ambisonic 1 or 2 audio support and automatic VR headset detection to provide an unparalleled viewing experience.

The FIVARS Spatialized Events platform (“FSE” for short”) features customizable avatar support via Ready Player Me, Eventbrite registration integration, and a dynamic 3D video kiosk system. This system allows for selecting multiple bitrates and frame sizes, complemented by webcam, VOIP, and text chat functionalities, facilitating a rich and engaging festival environment.
